Work backward from the day the keys change hands. Use this checklist to connect packing, parking, building access and the first night at the next home, whether you are packing yourself or arranging help.

Check tasks as you go. Checkmarks last while this page is open.

Put key pickup, mover arrival, building access and key return on one plan. Packing needs to be finished before the loading team needs the belongings. A confirmed mover does not automatically reserve a packing crew, an elevator or a curbside space.

The timeline below is a planning aid, not a fixed duration for every household. Start earlier for a large home, a downsize or a complicated building. If your date is closer, use the same order and concentrate on the unfinished tasks.

A downtown apartment may need an elevator slot and a specific loading entrance. A home on a narrow or sloped street may have a longer carrying route than the street address suggests. Check the actual route with your mover at both addresses and include stairs, gates, low branches and any vehicle access limits.

For a move within Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego or another nearby city, check that city’s parking process rather than assuming Portland’s permit applies. A move across the Columbia also needs confirmed access at the Vancouver address; choose a practical arrival plan with your transport provider.

During wet weather, keep paper cartons and packing materials in a dry working area. Discuss protection for floors and the loading route, and keep completed boxes away from water. Do not assume a covered truck solves exposure between the door and vehicle.

Send Packahome the whole-home room list, contents still unpacked, materials on hand, access photos and the date the boxes must be ready. Include full cupboards, closets and storage areas, even if the main rooms look nearly finished.

The written packing quote should identify accepted rooms and contents, supplies, staging, coordination and price. An inquiry starts the review; confirm the packing appointment separately from your chosen mover. If plans change, share the new deadline before assuming the existing arrangement will still fit.

What to do when packing is still unfinished
When should I start planning a Portland move?

Start as soon as the date and addresses are known. Four to six weeks is a useful planning starting point, but building reservations, provider availability and your household may require more time. If moving day is close, confirm access and transport first, then prioritize the rooms still unfinished.

Do I need a parking permit for a moving truck in Portland?

Check the location and proposed use with PBOT. A temporary street use permit can be used to reserve on-street spaces for a residential move. Ordinary parking restrictions still matter, and Portland rules do not automatically apply in neighboring cities. Confirm current instructions with the relevant city before relying on a space.

What should I pack first and last?

Pack items you rarely use first, such as seasonal belongings, spare linens and books. Leave daily toiletries, a small kitchen set, bedding and chargers accessible until the final stage. Keep medication, keys, documents and valuables with you.

Can I print this moving checklist?

Yes. Use Print this checklist to print the timeline or save it as a PDF through your browser. You can check the tasks on this page while it is open; checkmarks are not saved for a later visit.

Does Packahome provide the moving truck or transportation?

Packahome provides full-home packing with agreed box staging and packing coordination. You choose and arrange the mover, loading, unloading, vehicle, driver and transportation separately. Share that provider’s confirmed readiness deadline when requesting a packing quote.

What if I have only a few days left before moving?

Confirm keys, building access and transportation first. Identify the remaining contents in every room, gather materials and set aside essentials. Tell any packing provider the whole-home scope, what is finished and the actual deadline so availability and accepted work can be reviewed.

Confirm the current process, timing and any fees directly with the organization responsible. These links support the parking and address tasks above.
